Huge black marlin tears out to sea with US kayaker in tow

An American fishing off the Panamanian coast was dragged hundreds of metres out to sea at speed after he hooked a massive black marlin, which had little trouble breaking his line at the end of the ride.

Adam Fisk says he was about 1.5km from the Los Buzos Fishing Lodge when he realised he had something big on the end of his line – but he believes the fish didn't gather it had been snagged for at least a minute before the fight started in earnest.

"Then it tried to jump about 20 feet away from me and I got a very clear look at it," Mr Fisk, who estimated his quarry to weigh some 230kg, explained on YouTube.

"It could barely get its head out of the water and that is how I guessed the size."

Mr Fisk, who was fishing with a party of five for rooster fish – which tend to be significantly smaller than marlin – can be heard whooping with exhilaration as the fish starts dragging him out to sea at a rate of knots.

"It pulled me much faster than I have ever gone in that kayak," he wrote.

Indeed, the fish sustained its flight for two full minutes before it managed to break away, leaving Mr Fisk panting with excitement and no doubt glad he had his GoPro rolling.
