US couple goes on first blind date – in their 90s

Who said the art of dating is dead?

Not a couple in the US, who in their 90s, went on a blind date.

The pair, Miriam Steiner, 93, and Harold Sharlin, 90, was introduced by Mr Sharlin’s granddaughter Jenny, who waited on Ms Steiner at a restaurant and thought they would be a perfect match.

They met for their date at bookstore Politics & Prose in Washington DC.

Mr Sharlin goes to the store regularly, and the staff was quite surprised when they saw him there with a date.

They posted a picture of the love birds on their Facebook page, which has since been shared more than 530 times.

It has also attracted close to 3000 likes.

In an interview with US Today, the pair said the date was a success.

"I'm a conversationalist," Mr Sharlin said.

"I like to sit and talk. I like having a woman in my life."

Ms Steiner said meeting Mr Sharlin was better than expected.

"It's very unusual," she said.

"We're both in our 90s. We're both handicapped. Neither of us drive. It's not easy, making connections as a senior. But we need it. It's up there with Medicare and Social Security. I hope people remember that."
