US actor Rob Lowe faces Twitter backlash after slamming French President in wake of Paris terror attacks

US actor Rob Lowe has lashed out at French President Francois Hollande on Twitter in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, criticising the country’s counter-terrorism strategy and Mr Hollande’s speech.

At first, Lowe joined other celebrities in showing his support for France, but his tweets then took a sarcastic, critical turn.

One of Lowe’s tweets seemed to cruelly suggest that France could have prevented the terror attack.

 He then took aim at Mr Hollande for his speech reacting to the tragedy.

Lowe then changed topic to make a snide remark about Matt Damon’s film The Martian, before returning to more sombre tweets about the tragedy in Paris.

He also defended his critical tweets, insisting that he supported France.

Lowe was not the only celebrity who has tweeted their controversial opinions in the wake of the attacks, with former US Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich suggesting it was time for a debate about Syrian refugees.

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump also gave his two cents, before proclaiming his support for France.
