The world’s most famous and expensive bottle of vodka - with a price tag of US$1.3 million - has been stolen from a bar in Denmark.

The bottle, made from gold and silver and with a diamond encrusted cap, was on loan to the Cafe 33 bar in Copenhagen.

It was only on display with a large collection of vodkas for six months before it was stolen by a brazen thief, the BBC reports.

Viewers may remember seeing the beauty in an episode of the American political TV series, House of Cards.

CCTV showed the intruder grab the Russo-Baltique vodka and flee the bar on Tuesday.

No other bottles of vodka were taken.

Police say it is not clear if the thief broke in or had a key.

Bar owner Brian Ingberg, whose bar has 1200 vodka bottles, told broadcaster TV2 that he had borrowed the lavish bottle from the Latvia-based Dartz Motor Company.

"It has been part of my collection for six months, but not anymore," he said.

It is believed Russian luxury car maker Russo-Baltique created the vodka to commemorate the centenary of the company's factory.

The front of the bottle is decorated with almost three kilograms of leather and has a replica of the radiator guard used for Russo-Baltique cars.

The cap is shaped like a Russian imperial eagle and is encrusted with diamonds.

Mr Ingberg said the bottle featured in an episode of House of Cards as a gift from the Russian president to his US counterpart.

Investigations into the theft continues.
