The University of South Carolina Upstate in the US was placed on lockdown for more than an hour after a reported shooting at an off-campus apartment.

The university announced the lockdown via its official Twitter account at 12:41 p.m. and announced that the lockdown had been lifted at 1.55pm, reports the Charleston Post and Courier.

The campus was put in lockdown after police responded to a shooting around noon, an apartment complex adjacent to campus, according to Tammy Whaley, a spokesperson for the university.

A tweet from the university described the shooter as wearing khaki pants and a grey “hoodie,” carrying an automatic weapon.

Whaley said the victim is not a student and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
