An Estonian photographer decided to eschew tradition on her wedding day - becoming her own official photographer.

“When we decided to get married, we knew that we don’t want the stress and fuss about all the wedding related issues. We just wanted to make it legal and celebrate a bit,” Liisa Luts told Petapixel.

“A valid part of that concept was my decision to shoot my own wedding,” she said.

Ms Luts said it was not a matter of money or availability, and that she and her new husband run a small media company, but they didn’t like the idea of posed photos.

“I just felt that I want something different, not those posed beauty shots and not that post-processed glamorous photo gallery.

“I just wanted something more ‘us’ and therefore more authentic,” she said.

The unique approach to documenting the day resulted in a very intimate series of photographs, as she captured all kinds of unguarded moments, from the second she woke up to the moment the couple went to sleep.

The photos have been shared widely online since Ms Luts shared them on her personal blog.

“I’m really happy with the result and a bit stunned that it has got a lot of positive feedback,” Ms Luts said.

She said she hopes her endeavour helps others to feel brave enough take a less than traditional approach to their own projects in the future.

“The aim of sharing it is to inspire people to go the way they feel and not to do things just by the book.”
