UK man to eat at 1031 Nando's stores worldwide

In an attempt to get "free food for life", a man in the UK spent more than $1800 on Nando's chicken only to discover that the prize he was competing for was no longer on offer.

But the chicken shop said it will honour his efforts, provided he eats at the 900 other stores around the world.

After handing over his money at 85 of the UK's 280 Nando's restaurants, 26-year-old Christopher Poole thought he was in for a chance to win the fabled "black card" which would give him free chicken for the rest of his life - if he could prove he had eaten at every one of Nando's 1031 stores worldwide.

"I love chicken and eat in there a couple of nights a week anyway, so decided to embrace the challenge. I'd do anything to get my hands on a card giving me free chicken," Mr Poole told the Daily Mail.

Mr Poole's dreams were crushed when he discovered the competition was no longer running, a revelation that he said left him "gutted".

"There are more than 300 Nando's in Australia, and I was planning to go there next year - but then I heard that the contest wasn't even valid anymore," Mr Poole said.

In the first leg of his quest to eat at the chicken shops around the world, Mr Poole travelled the UK for a year, gaining nearly 6.5kgs as he went.

When Nando's executive's heard about Mr Poole's efforts they decided to honour the competition, as long as he proves he has eaten at every store around the world.

"I'm thrilled that they have recognised my efforts, and I'm more determined than ever to complete the challenge," Mr Poole said.
