An English woman who thought she had won £1000 ($2000) in the lottery got a life-changing shock when she learnt that she had actually won £1 million.

Marjorie Tyrie, 58, rang the National Lottery after receiving an email telling her she had won a prize in the Lotto Millionaire Raffle, The Sun reports.

"Oh hello, I've got an email saying I've won, I think it's £1,000 or something," Ms Tyrie told lottery worker Raj in a video posted online on February 11.

"I've just come home from work checking my emails and I thought I've got another Lucky Dip. Is it on that raffle thing maybe?".

"Wow, that's fantastic news isn't it? It looks like you are a winner of £1million."

The social club worker screams in delight.

"You're not winding me up?" she asks.

The 58-year-old then accepts that she has won and excitedly shouts "That means I'm a millionaire. That means I'll be a millionaire!"

Mrs Tyrie said the win came just weeks after her husband Allan, who worked as a welder, was made redundant.

"Even after Alan was made redundant within a week he had found another contracting job which he actually started the morning after we discovered the win," she said.

Welding is a physically demanding job so it'll be nice for him to hang up his welder's mask and take it a bit easier for a while."

Mrs Tyrie said that she and her husband plan to do some of the things they have always wanted to as well as helping their two sons.

"This year may have started a little rocky but my gosh, it soon picked up!" she said.
