Wild weather has battered the US east coast including two tornadoes which touched down in New Jersey.

The storms, which ranked as EF-0 on the Fujita scale, formed on Saturday morning according to NOAA's National Weather Service.

Video taken by Brett Dzadik at a Home Depot showed one of the rain-wrapped funnels ripping through a carpark, uprooting numerous trees and pushing several vehicles into each other.

The first tornado touched down at 7.21 am and the second at 7:27 am with wind speeds reaching 120km/h.

Residents in New York and New Jersey received severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings on Saturday as a result of Tropical Depression Cindy, which has soaked parts of Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.

Nobody was reportedly injured during the storms which lasted only minutes each.
