New data suggests two unknown planets could exist beyond Pluto

A new theory suggests our solar system could be larger than previously suspected, with at least two more planets existing in the space past Pluto.

Astronomers have detected unusual movements in that region of space, Discovery News has reported.

The symmetry of the movements of those extra-terrestrial bodies suggest they are being affected by a planet's gravity.

“This excess of objects with unexpected orbital parameters makes us believe that some invisible forces are altering the distribution of the orbital elements,” Carlos de la Fuente Marcos of the Complutense University of Madrid, said.

“We consider that the most probable explanation is that other unknown planets exist beyond Neptune and Pluto.”

Mr de la Fuente Marcos said if the theory was proven true, it would be "revolutionary" for astronomy.

Pluto was booted from the list of planets in 2006 and renamed a dwarf planet, however as astronomers continue to discover new celestial bodies debate has arisen over how planets should be defined.
