Two dead after light plane crashes into grounds of the Queen’s Sandringham Estate

A man and woman have been killed in a light aircraft accident on Queen Elizabeth II’s country estate in Norfolk, England.

The male pilot, aged in his 50s, and female passenger died after the Piper PA-28 aircraft crashed into the grounds of Sandringham Estate about 11am local time (XX AEST), BBC reported.

It is not believed the pair had any connections to the royal family or military.

An investigation by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch into the cause of the crash are underway.

Sandringham Estate consists of 20,000 acres of land near the village of Sandringham in Norfolk, and includes 24-hecatres of gardens which are open to the public on a daily basis.

The home located at heart of the property is regarded as the country retreat of the Queen, and has been the private home of four generations of British monarchs since 1862.

She was not at the residence at the time.
