Turkish Airlines flight diverted to Canada after bomb threat

A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 flying from New York City to Turkey has been diverted to Halifax, Canada after an apparent bomb threat.

Firefighting crews and police safely evacuated the 256 passengers on board flight TK2, with Halifax Stanfield International tweeting they had been transferred to the terminal building and “all is going smoothly”.

In a series of tweets The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the threat came in at 10.50pm this evening, adding that police dogs trained in explosives would search the jet as well as luggage.

Police said they would not comment on the details of the bomb threat against the Ankara-bound jet.

An Air France flight with 262 people on board was diverted to Halifax airport last Tuesday after a bomb threat in the wake of the Paris attacks.
