Donald Trump has declared he is opposed to "ripping the baby out of the womb in the ninth month" during a discussion of late-term abortion in the final presidential debate with Hillary Clinton.

Mr Trump was asked whether he wanted the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, to which he said he was "pro-life" and that if the decision was overturned, abortion regulation would be the responsibility of the states.

Ms Clinton said she would defend Roe v. Wade and "women's rights to make their own health care decisions".

She said she had met women forced to make the difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy in its late stages.

Mr Trump did not make clear whether he was referring to late-term abortions involving a viable fetus able to survive independently outside the womb.

Mr Trump's position on abortion has changed over the years. He has acknowledged being previously pro-choice.
