18-wheeler ploughs into tollbooth and gets airborne

A truck has become airborne after ploughing into a toll booth in the US and smashing into oncoming traffic.

The crash happened in Dover, New Hampshire last Thursday, and shows the 18-wheel truck slamming into the unmanned booth and taking off before hitting a car, Global News reports.

The truck driver was identified as 47-year-old Roland Joy, while the driver of the car, a 2013 Lexus, was 69-year-old John Worley.

Both were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr Joy reportedly suffered head trauma and "a severe shoulder injury".

Mr Worley said he doesn't hold a grudge against Mr Joy for the crash, but that would change if it turned out Mr Joy was driving drunk.

"I'm just glad to be alive," Mr Worley said. "You should have seen it from the rear view mirror."

"Honestly, look, I'm glad he's okay but if it's a DUI situation I will probably have a different vocabulary than what I am using right now," he said.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
