Truck carrying watermelons goes ploughing through toll gate

A truck carrying watermelons crashed dramatically through a toll gate in China on Friday, flipping over and ending up on its roof.

Witnesses can be seen running over to the crippled truck, trying to turn it back onto its tyres.

The watermelons went flying in the crash and ended up in a spectacular pulpy mess all over the toll gate at Ili Prefecture, in the Xinjiang province, which was closed for several hours.

Police say the truck’s brakes failed, and the driver and a passenger were taken to hospital.

It’s believed driver fatigue may have played a role in the accident.
