Train collides with school bus stuck across tracks in Germany

The bus, which was filled with 60 young children, stalled on the tracks on Wednesday morning when the driver attempted to make a difficult right turn into a narrow road, Spiegel reports.

Unable to restart the vehicle, the driver was attempting to contact railway operators when a train began approaching.

The back of the bus was perched helplessly across the tracks as the train sped toward it.

The 23-year-old bus driver immediately told all of the children to get off of the bus.

A police spokeswoman told Spiegel the situation could have been much worse if not for the quick thinking of the driver.

The approaching train crashed straight into the back of the bus despite hitting the brakes.

Only one person on the train was injured in the incident.
