Traffic jam backs up 10km outside Beijing

And you thought your morning commute was bad.

Footage has emerged of a traffic jam stretching over 10km backed up outside Beijing.

The backlog happened on Tuesday, and was reportedly caused by huge numbers of city dwellers returning to the Chinese capital following the end of the Chinese New Year holiday season.

China is no stranger to massive traffic jams, as you would expect of a country with more than 1.3 billion people.

In 2010 the China National Highway 110 was backed up over 100 kilometres from Beijing to Inner Mongolia, with the jam lasting a mind-numbing 10 days.
