Watching wrongdoers get their just desserts can be oh-so-incredibly satisfying. With this in mind we’ve made up a list of the top five most impressive displays of instant karma – from smug drivers to bawling thieves, the retribution is swift and brutal.

5 - Dim-witted thief gets run over

Astonishing surveillance footage shows the thief casually strolling past a restaurant. He spots the wallet sitting on a customer’s table and soon doubles back.

The robber grabs the wallet and runs straight onto the road, only to be hit by a car.

4 - The not-so-lovable "jerk cat"

When a fellow feline tries to clamber out of a pool it's become stranded in, the heartless animal cruelly pushes it back into the water.

3 - Bawling thief gets hand trapped

A thief in Chile was filmed bursting into tears after a bus driver trapped his hand in a bus door, moments after he snatched a handbag. The bus driver then began beating him with a stick for good measure.

2 - Queensland driver's swift payback

This driver decided it was a good idea to take an illegal u-turn - in front of a police car. Not surprisingly, the dashcam footage from September this year attracted hundreds of thousands of views online.
