Toddler lives on off milk for days after mum dies

A toddler who survived for days on stale bread and rancid milk has been rescued from a Chinese tenement, where she was discovered next to her mother’s corpse.

The three-year-old from Shishi, in Fujian province, was heard crying by the building's landlord, who called firefighters.

As The Mirror reports, the crew was forced to break down the apartment door with axes, wherein the distressed girl was found next to the lifeless body of her 31-year-old mother.

The woman, referred to as Miss Zhang, is believed to have died two days earlier from a heart attack.

The girl lived on leftover bread and curdled milk until she was found.

She is now being cared for in the local hospital.
