Umbrellas, luggage among banned items at 2015 Gallipoli Anzac Day commemorations

Everything from folding chairs to open bottles of water will be banned at this year's centenary Anzac Day commemorations at Gallipoli amid increased fears of terrorist attacks.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has warned Australian travellers to be wary while attending the ceremonies in Turkey due to the higher likelihood of extremist activity.

DFAT has said there is no specific threat to target Australians at the celebrations, but ongoing activity by groups such as ISIL in Syria and Iraq could spill over the border to Turkey, which has already suffered attacks in cities including Istanbul and Ankara.

The list of banned objects at the Gallipoli commemorations include metal cutlery, large luggage, opened water bottles, large cameras with long lenses and umbrellas and other pointed objects.

DFAT has advised visitors to take warm and waterproof clothing.

There will be no shelter at the ceremonies and visitors will not be allowed to lie down.

Alcohol will also be forbidden at the events.
