Therapy dog comforts dying woman

An emotional video of a dying elderly woman and a dog listening to poetry together is pulling at the heart strings of social media users.

The footage shows a woman, thought be aged in her 80s or 90s, gently stroking the head of JJ who is lying next to her on the bed, The Huffington PostThe Huffington Post.

JJ is a therapy dog, who works alongside humans to provide therapeutic benefits.

The elderly woman, who was brought to the hospice after taking a "significant fall”, died the day after the video was shot at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in the US.

Nurse Tracy Calhoun said the woman loved poetry and had few visitors since arriving at the hospice.

"This lady was minimally responsive, but as can be seen in the video, she did have some response with JJ's prompting," said Ms Calhoun.

The video was originally filmed a year-and-a-half ago, but has resurfaced through massive online popularity.
