Terror for paratrooper dragged behind plane

A video purporting to show a Mexican armed forces training exercise captures a terrifying moment for one soldier, who is dragged flailing behind the aircraft after his chute failed to open.

The exercise was a static line jump, where each paratrooper is fixed to a cable that automatically opens their parachutes as they jump. At least, that's how it works in theory.

But this trooper is dragged behind the plane at altitude, spinning sickeningly.

There are unconfirmed reports the soldier is recovering in hospital, but the outcome could have been much worse. Last year, a Thai paratrooper was killed in a static line jump training exercise after a similar mishap.
