Teller laughs at knife-wielding bank robber
A man in China may be facing a lengthy prison sentence after his nonchalant plan to rob a bank ended with the teller laughing in his face before he was tackled by security.
The brazen but non-threatening heist took place at a branch of the China Construction Bank in Zhoujiazui yesterday, KU reports
Surveillance footage of the failed robbery shows the would-be bandit calmly approach the teller, who is siting safely behind a transparent barrier, as she helps another customer.
Unwilling to wait his turn the man sidles up to the customer and holds up a meat cleaver to the glass dividing himself and the teller as he chats on his phone.
But the shiny weapon doesn't have the desired effect — the female customer calmly collects her bag and walks off while the teller turns around and appears to point the knife-wielding man out to a colleagues as she laughs.
As other customers leave the building the bank's security staff enter and tackle the man who offers little resistance and is easily subdued.
The suspect is reported to be a "mental patient".
