TV monkey relearning how to be a chimp

'Choppers' the chimp, known for her work in a series of English tea ads, is relearning how to be an ape after the commercials left her too humanised to survive in the wild.

Choppers, 42, and several other apes featured in the 1970's adverts which portrayed them as a human family, dressing the primates up in clothes and making them Act out everyday scenarios. 

In the series of commercials the group would undertake furniture removals DIY and even do housework all while enjoying a cup of tea. 

Although loved by the public, the poplar ads turned out to be extremely damaging for the apes destroying their natural instinct and changing their behaviour. 

After her TV fame Choppers retired to the Leicestershire Zoo and over the years handlers have been training her to become more chimp-like. 

Some of the problems zoo keepers' encountered including Choppers' seemingly friendly smile, which chimps use to show aggression. 

Recently, handlers were buoyed by what they consider to be a giant leap in Choppers' training after she appeared to join a grooming circle.
