Taiwan's top military officer killed in air force helicopter crash

Taiwan's top military officer and seven other people have died in a Black Hawk helicopter crash.
The Defence Ministry confirmed Air force General Shen Yi-min was not listed among the survivors of the crash in mountains outside the capital, Taipei.
As chief of the general staff, Shen is responsible for overseeing the island's defense against China, which threatens to use military force to annex what it considers it own territory.
Major General Huang Chih-wei, Inspector General at Taiwan's air force, said weather had been poor for flying.
"From the air, the helicopter was influenced by the weather. The visibility is not very good. We have yet to clarify if troops on the ground can see the (crashed) aircraft."
