Syrian refugee children thrilled to be playing in snow for the first time

Three Syrian refugee siblings have been filmed embracing the snowy conditions of their newfound Canadian home.

Police officer David McNab, from Peterborough, Ontario, shot the heart-warming clip of the three children tobogganing that has since been viewed more than 200,000 times.

Ansam, 13, Ibrahim, 10 and nine-year-old Dayla Alkhalaf appear to be thrilled by the country’s icy weather as they speed down the slopes, laughing ecstatically.

The children made the journey from Syria to Canada via Lebanon, with their mother, Amal, and arrived just before Christmas.

Officer McNab and his wife, Kristy Hiltz, are part of a group who are helping the Syrian mother and her three children adjust to life in Canada after fleeing conflict in their home country.

“They are going to make fantastic Canadians,” Officer McNab told Today.com.

One of the toboggans was donated by a local child the day the video was filmed. Locals have provided snowsuits, boots and winter clothes to help the children adjust to life in a very different climate to their homeland.
