Culprit brandishes banana to rob grocery store
The culprit managed to fool the grocery store cashier that he was brandishing a handgun beneath his sweatshirt — when in fact it was just a banana.
He is seen on surveillance video swiping the piece of fruit from a counter by the cash register before tucking it into his front pocket, making out like it was a loaded weapon and then ordering the cashier to hand over money and cigarettes.
After the holdup, which unfolded in the US city of Philadelphia on Tuesday morning, the man is seen riding away on his bicycle.
Police are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect.
"We're fearful this male may continue ... doing further robberies and he did put these people in fear because they cannot tell what the item was when he demanded money and claimed he had a gun," Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker told CBS News.
