7.1 magnitude earthquake strikes off Papua New Guinea coast

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea.
The tremor was recorded at a depth of 61km, 116km south-southwest of the city of Kokopo at around 6:06pm AEST.

It follows a strong 6.8 magnitude shock which struck yesterday at 9:30pm AEST.
It is believed no tsunami alert will be issued.
