Strangers form human chain to rescue truck driver dangling from cliff

In an astonishing feat of body power, a group of strangers were able to heave a truck driver dangling from a cliff to safety by forming a human chain earlier this week.

The unidentified truck driver had been driving along a highway in Pennsylvania in the US in snowy conditions when he lost control of the vehicle.

The truck reportedly swerved across two lanes of traffic before smashing through a road barrier and almost flying off a cliff; the driver left stranded in the dangling cab.

Within minutes a group of passers-by had jumped out of their cars to help the endangered man.

Debris and diesel fuel covered the road and the truck had started smoking as the group of approximately 10 strangers locked arms, using their combined force to lift the man out.

Arlyn Satanek, who was part of the rescue effort, told WTAE the human chain had been a spontaneous and instinctive idea.

“It was kind of like everyone knew in that moment ‘we’ve just got to reach him. Let’s just join together, let’s lock in to this and let’s get this guy up.’ It was awesome,” he said.
