Storms leave heavy trail of destruction in Germany

A German driver has filmed the formation of a tornado from inside his car, as violent storms thrashed parts of Germany, leaving a trail of destruction and debris.

Residents in the Germany town of Buetzow were surprised by the storm’s wrath as roofs were torn off, cars overturned and trees ripped from the ground.

Some witnesses reported the storm was so strong, a car was tossed 70m through the air.

One resident described who described the storm as “insane” said, “I have never seen anything like this in my life, it is complete madness. Hundreds of trees have been overturned, completely uprooted, roofs ripped off. You don’t experience something like this every day.”

Three tornadoes have been reported since Tuesday which has left many injured with one fatality reported in Hamburg. A hospital, nursing home and even Butzow’s town hall were damaged by the force of the storm.

According to Greg Forbes from The Weather Channel, "Germany has had an average of about 32 tornadoes reported per year over the last 10 years."

German weather forecasters warned of further storms in the next following days.
