Storm Frank smashes coastal train with 6m waves

Passengers have endured a gut-churning ride on a train being pounded by huge waves whipped up by Storm Frank that is battering parts of the UK.

A camera on Dawlish Beach shows the menacing surf slam 6m-high waves into the side of a First Great Western train on the coastal tracks in the south-east of England.

The route by Dawlish Beach is famously picturesque but has been turned by the storm into a frightening stretch of track for the hundreds of commuters who use it every day.

One passenger, Guy Santos, shared a video from inside the train as it was battered by the ferocious sea.

"That sea is very angry. Stay safe everyone," one person commented on the video shared on Facebook.

"Wow, brilliant. One of the best lines ever and no it must never be closed," another person said.

The dramatic train footage is the latest captivating image to come from the wild weather in the UK.

Storm Frank is the sixth major storm to batter the region in two months, with damaging winds and rainfall that has flooded vast areas.

Overnight, homeowners across the flooded north of England were being told to pack their belongings and leave home immediately as the storm threatened to breach flood defences and bring with it nearly a month’s worth of rain in one day, the MailOnline reports.
