While millions of people flocked across Europe to marvel at the weekend's total solar eclipse, a brood of chickens in the Faroe Islands found the natural phenomenon entirely confusing.

The timelapse video posted by the public broadcaster in Faroe Islands shows the chickens gathered outside their barn when the sky suddenly begins to go dark, prompting the group to head inside for their night time nap.

One by one the chickens make their way into the barn, as it gets progressively darker outside.

Soon enough the whole brood has made their way inside and the eclipse has taken full effect, plunging everything into darkness.

But within minutes the light begins to return and with it comes the funniest part of the clip.

The proud rooster emerges from the barn and with the puff of his chest and a cock-a-doddle-doo, he lets everything around him know that "morning" has arrived.
