Soham killer thinks about victims ‘every day’ and ‘wanted to admit to murders’

The notorious killer of two British schoolgirls has reportedly been recorded on tape in prison saying he wanted to admit to murdering his victims.

Ian Huntley – known as the Soham killer – was jailed for life in 2003 for killing Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, both 10, in southern England.

In the recordings – obtained by The Sun newspaper – Huntley declares he is “terribly sorry” for their deaths and says he thinks about his victims “every day”.

Huntley, now aged 44, received two life sentences for the murders at his home in Soham, Cambridgeshire in August 2002.

He has never spoken of his motives for their killings, but in the tapes says he deliberately killed Jessica to stop her raising the alarm, while Holly accidentally died in the bath.

Huntley can be heard on the tape saying he wanted to confess to the manslaughter of Holly and to the murder of Jessica.

“That was never going to happen as I wanted to be able to say what happened in court,” he said. “It was something I thought very long and hard about because I did not want families through that trial.”

According to The Sun, Huntley claims he thinks about his victims daily.

“I am genuinely, genuinely sorry and it breaks my heart when it is reported I have no remorse; that I relish something. I do not.

"I think about them every day."

"I know those girls would be 26 this year with families of their own, jobs and lives.”

Huntley worked as a caretaker at Holly and Jessica’s school at the time of their murders.

The girls were dressed in red Manchester United football shirts at the time they went missing.

A photo of the pair in the club jerseys was taken shortly before their disappearance.

After initially telling police the girls had left his house, Huntley later confessed to dumping their bodies in a ditch before burning their bodies.
