Six people arrested after 'anti-Semitic' incident at north London synagogue

Six people have been arrested in north London after forcing their way into a synagogue in what police have described as an "anti-Semitic" incident.

One man was injured after allegedly being punched in the face when he tried to stop the men from entering the Stamford Hill synagogue in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said the group were drunk after leaving a nearby party and forced their way into the building in the predominantly Jewish neighbourhood.

The six suspects were held for public order offences and assault, with authorities claiming one man made an anti-Semitic comment.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said it was being treated as an anti-Semitic incident because of the remarks made by the man.

"At this early stage, there is no suggestion that this was a far-right or extremist attack but rather the completely unacceptable actions of a drunken group," the spokesperson said.

The man punched at the scene was treated for minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
