Siri, the personal assistant on the Apple iPhone, became a life saver for an 18-year-old US teenager when he became stuck under a truck last month.

Sam Ray was working underneath a ute in his driveway in Nashville when the jack holding the 2200 kilogram vehicle failed, ABC News reports.

He had just finished talking to his dad on his mobile before the truck fell on top of him. His phone was in his back pocket and his arms were trapped.

“This arm (his left) was above my head, tangled up,” he said.

“I know it was on the exhaust because it was burnt from here up (from his shoulder to his hand).”

Using his weight from his hips he managed to activate Siri on his iPhone, and use the voice recognition software to dial 911 for help.

“Help me, I’m stuck under my truck," Ray told a dispatcher. "Send help, please."

Emergency services took Ray to Vanderbilt Trauma Center where he was treated for several broken ribs and a crushed kidney.
