'Significant damage' after fire tears through bungalow in Melbourne's east

A home in Melbourne's east has been left with "significant damage" after a blaze broke out early this morning.

Firefighters were called to Beddows Street, Burwood about 12.45am to find a bungalow ablaze.

They managed to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes, however the building was left gutted.

A resident in his 20s managed to escape without injury and was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

He was later taken to hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation. 

A building surveyor is due to attend the property to gauge the full extent of the damage.

The fire's cause has not yet been confirmed, however police say it doesn't appear to be suspicious.
