Bold bear steals Siberian hunter's guns

A bold Siberian bear has turned the tables on a hunter by stealing the man’s guns.

Earlier this month, the lone hunter had set off in a remote vast forest in the Russian province’s Irkutsk region, reports the Siberian Times.

After leaving his shotgun and automatic carbine with supplies in a cabin the man walked to a nearby river for water.

But on returning, the 57-year-old hunter heard sounds from the wooden abode and spotted a bear.

“To avoid an encounter with the animal, the hunter scurried off into the woods where he hid for several hours,” a statement from the local government authority said.

When he finally re-entered the cabin, he discovered a bag and the two guns were missing.

After his search of the nearby forest failed to find the weapons, he reported the incident to police.

Police investigators found scratch marks on logs near the cabin believed to be from a bear. A plastic bucket also had bite marks on it.

The hunter faces a fine and the possible one-year suspension of his right to buy and use firearms.
