A Texas high school student alleged to have opened fire on a peer and a police officer has reportedly died after turning the gun on herself.

An active shooter situation was reported at Alpine High School in the city of Alpine at around 9.30am local time Thursday (12.30am AEST Friday) and the school placed in lockdown, El Paso Proud reports.

A female student is reported to have shot a female peer and a Brewster County Sheriff’s Office representative before taking her own life.

The wounded student, along with two other “victims”, have since been taken to Alpine’s Big Bend Regional Medical Centre, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries.

The shooter’s motives are not known at this time.
