If at first you don’t succeed – try, try again.

That’s the advice heeded by authorities in the disputed Crimean Peninsula city of Sevastopol after a controlled explosion failed to bring down a 16-storey building.

Spectators erupted in laughter when the explosion didn’t down the building on Boxing Day, leaving the Russian-controlled city with its very own leaning tower.

But authorities managed to destroy the building today, with a second blast sending the leaning tower plunging to the ground in a cloud of dust and smoke.

The demolition crew was contracted to bring the building down because it had been built illegally, according to locals.

Footage of the first, failed, explosion shows the building partially collapse in on itself before coming to a rest on a 20 degree angle.
