Sea lion ‘gives’ diver a starfish

An inquisitive sea lion has been filmed dropping starfish into a SCUBA diver’s hands off the Canadian coast.

Video shows National Geographic filmmaker Bertie Gregory surrounded by a raft of young sea lions on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

One particularly friendly sea lion pushes a bright yellow starfish towards Mr Gregory.

“Oh look.. he brought me a starfish,” the wildlife filmmaker says, using his underwater microphone.

Mr Gregory then carefully places the starfish on to the ocean bed, but soon after it is scooped up by the same sea lion.

The starfish is then carried away in the sea lion’s mouth.  

“Oh dear. That starfish has had a bad day,” Mr Gregory says.

More than 20,000 people have viewed the clip since it was posted to Instagram yesterday.
