Scottish rock climber smacks wall hard while scaling Greek cliff face

A Scottish rock climber's Greek Islands holiday was cut short by a "particularly nasty fall" that saw him crash into a cliff face.

Calum McBain was scaling a 7b fall (Grade 25, over hard ground) on Kalymnos when he lost his grip.

Mr McBain plunged several metres before the slack in his rope ran out.

His friend and fellow climber Kieran Duncan recorded the fall.

With his head facing the ground and his legs up in the air, Mr McBain swung into the rock wall back-first.

He hit with a loud, bone-breaking thud that later landed him in hospital.

Despite the sickening sound, he fractured only a few ribs and dislocated and broke his thumb.

"A particularly nasty fall cut Calum's trip short," Mr Duncan wrote.

Mr McBain has returned to Scotland where he underwent surgery on his hand. He is not expected to be climbing for some months.
