Scientists suggest possible solution to Bermuda Triangle mystery

Bizarre clouds that form above the Bermuda Triangle could help explain why numerous ships and planes have disappeared in the particular patch of the North Atlantic Ocean, according to a group of scientists.

Meteorologists speaking on the Science Channel’s What on Earth program suggested “hexagonal” shaped clouds reaching up to 273km/h on the western tip of the Bermuda Triangle could be capable of bringing down planes and ships.

Meteorologist Randy Cerveny Satellite said satellite radar imagery showing the clouds was “bizarre”, and described the clouds as being like “air bombs”.

Colorado State University satellite meteorologist Steve Miller agreed that the clouds were strange.

“You don’t typically see straight edges with clouds. Most of the time, clouds are random in their distribution [unlike these],” he said.

It’s believed more than 1000 ships have mysteriously disappeared in the waters between Miami, Puerto Rico and the island of Bermuda over the past five centuries, according to Bermuda Attractions.

On October 1 last year, the SS El Faro sank off the coast of the Bahamas within the triangle.

It was eventually located 15,000 feet below the surface after a month of searching.
