A Welsh Star Wars fanatic has gone out in style by having an honour guard of Storm Troopers lead his funeral procession.

Gordon Deacon, 58, died last month after a 20-month battle with pancreatic and liver cancer.

His widow told The Telegraph he had been obsessed with the classic sci-fi films since the 1970s.

"He was mad on Star Wars. We went to see the first film in 1977 and ever since then he was fixated with it," Marilyn Deacon said.

Mr Deacon was brought to a church in Cardiff by horse drawn coffin yesterday, with a score of Darth Vader's henchmen proudly out in front.

Mrs Deacon said her husband, a father-of-four, had two specific requirements for the unique funeral plan.

"My husband didn't want people to wear black, his wish was to have a different funeral," she said.

"People can either wear Star Wars costumes - but not Darth Vader - or red for (English football club) Liverpool."
