Salmon 'run' across US road during downpour

It is not often fish are at risk of becoming roadkill, but that was the risk salmon were willing to take in the US state of Washington after torrential rain caused a river to burst.

Jolene Clement was driving near the Skokomish River when she came upon scores of salmon "running" across a flooded road.

She stops to film the fish making their way across the shallow water, as they frantically flip their tailfins in search of deeper waters.

Ms Clement uploaded the footage to Facebook on November 15, where it has been viewed almost 2.2 million times.

"These guys were so cool to see up close," she said.

Skokomish is the most flood-prone river in Washington State, according to The Wilderness Society.
