Russian cops forced to take down bear in shopping centre

Russian police have been forced to shoot a bear after it ran riot in a shopping centre.

The Kamchatka brown bear broke into the shopping mall, in the far-eastern city of Khabarovsk, around midnight yesterday, Lifenews.ru reports.

The bear roamed through the centre, which was closed, for more than 10 minutes before bursting out of the front door onto the street, as an onlooker screams in terror.

The bear was then shot to death by police after it wandered near a primary school.

Between 10,000 to 14,000 brown bears are found in eastern Russia, but those numbers have been drastically reduced since the fall of the Soviet Union as a result of hunting.
