Angry rhino charges rangers after release into the wild

Moments after being released into the wild a rare Nepalese rhino charged park rangers.

Video captured the dramatic scenes at Nepal's Chitwan National Park on Tuesday after the endangered one-horned rhino was let back into the wild.

Footage shows how the giant mammal attacked the vehicle it had been transported in, forcing park rangers to flee, reports the UK Independent.

Nearby conservation staff riding elephants were not spared its fury when the fearful-looking beast galloped towards them before making off into woodland.

The rhino release was part of a conservation project to boost numbers of the animals after they were almost wiped out by poachers in the early 20th century.

Anti-poaching campaigns have seen numbers rise but there are estimated to be fewer than 4000 across Nepal and India.

Conservation chiefs aim to release four female rhinos later this week to join the male in Chitwan, located in the far west of the country.
