Rescuers pull elderly man from frozen Estonia lake

A group of Estonian rescue workers have offered a glimpse into their life-threatening daily duties, with cameras capturing their efforts to pull an elderly man from a frozen lake.

Video shared by the Estonian Rescue Board shows a group of orange-uniformed rescuers sliding across the icy water of a lake last Friday.

They eventually reach an elderly man who is floating in the lake.

He is holding an ice-pick in his hand, presumably from trying to save himself.

One of the rescuers reaches out to the man and pulls him to the safety of the rescue board as the ice continues to give way.

The Rescue Board shared the video on Youtube, along with a warning with the video  about the “unpredictability” of ice in Spring.

“Ice in the Spring is thin and fragile…it is unpredictable,” a caption in the video reads.
