Quirky bartender wins $356,952 over seven-day 'Jeopardy' streak

A New York City bartender who earned hundreds of thousands over seven days as a contestant on game show “Jeopardy” is now courting internet stardom – thanks to a very distinct sense of style.

Austin Rogers recently made his debut on the long-running US quiz show, during which he has managed to rack up a series of wins amounting to a cash prize of US$278,300 (A$356,952).

Mr Rogers’ unusual powers of recall and his bold and goofy sense of showmanship have helped earn him his own hashtag, #austinonjeopardy.

Mr Rogers has even responded to some of the tweets from his personal Twitter profile that humorously credits him as “MC. Writer of Black and Yellow. Owner/Executive Chef, Nobu. Architect of Falling Water and Burj Khalifa”.

When asked what his secret to success was, Mr Rogers told ABC News US that preparation was crucial, and that he watched “found ways to watch hundreds upon hundreds of episodes” – despite not having a TV.

"I'm not going to say there's a system or a code, but if you watch enough, you'll start seeing things repeat," said Rogers.

"Like if it ever says 'sculptor,' it's probably going to be Auguste Rodin.

"If it ever says, 'American sculptor,' it'll probably be Alexander Calder. If it ever says Romanian poet, it'll be Enasescu.

"I have no idea who Enasescu is, but I've seen that come up three times in episodes across the decades.”

Mr Rogers said he aims to spend his winnings on a BMW.
