The Queen, joyful, for the opening of the Chelsea Flower Show

It’s the most famous flower show in the world, and the Queen looked delighted to be there.

Her Majesty wore a baby pink Stuart Parvin coat, with a diamond brooch and white gloves, as she walked a floral carpet at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Queen Elizabeth is patron of the Royal Horticultural Society and members of the Royal Family have visited every year since 1913.

On Sunday, Her Majesty was joined by Princess Beatrice, Princess Anne and the Duke of York, who were all back on duty after the royal wedding.

The Queen’s smile said it all, clearly pleased with the biggest and brightest of the world's gardens - and this year, the best roses yet.

Growers had been worried about the impact of England's very long drawn-out Winter.

“That creates a great concern on what the impact will be on the roses but we’re pleased to be able to say it's actually been the best growing season,” rose grower, David Austin said.

Just two weeks ago, there was not a flower to be seen among the rose bushes but the sudden warmer weather arrived just in time.

Anthony Andrews has been attending the Chelsea Flower Show since 1954 and now judges some of the flowers.

"We’ve got daffodils growing, we’ve got roses all coming out in May, it’s just a unique situation,” he said.

And amongst the British tradition, there’s a touch of Aussie innovation. Vegepods are debuting at this year’s show and could prove quite popular.

The mobile garden beds are small enough for most balconies and can be moved around to chase sun on foggy London days.
