Florida man dies after ramming propane-laden car into home of ex-girlfriend

A man has died after crashing his propane-laden car into a Florida apartment building, believed to be the home of his former girlfriend.

Carl Philbert, 31, loaded a white car with several propane tanks and deliberately drove the vehicle into the ground floor of the two-story complex in Fort Pierce last Tuesday, police said.

The pair reportedly had an argument prior to the incident taking place.

Video filmed by police shows fire crews attempting to extinguish the flames, as a witness yells, “somebody is in the car”.

Mr Philbert died at the scene and 13 adults and five children received assistance from the American Red Cross after escaping from the building without injury.

Authorities determined the fire was caused by the impact of the vehicle into the complex, with one propane tank exploding as a result of the intensity of the blaze.
